Classics on the Common, Harpenden, 29th July

Heavy showers affected this event which is unique in being on a mid week evening. The cars on show were very interesting with a broad range and included two very nice Tatras, a vintage Essex and a very nice Lancia Aurelia coupe which stood out among several hundred cars, bikes and lorries on show. Good to see Mike Pearson and his Dellow Rep. On the way to the event we visited the NT house of George Bernard Shaw the writer at nearby Ayot St Lawrence and also had a look at one of the Hertfordshire monster fords at Batford. The ford was deep and wide with fast running water and low branches and would probably be ON in MTT but only with 4x4 back up. We really enjoyed the atmosphere at Classics on the Common and left at about 7pm when the rain set in. On the way back on the M25, the exhaust broke again and I had to unbolt the rear mounting and then strapped the system to the back of the car and drove home on open exhaust.
